The software that Microsoft has been touting as a product of its R&D :

is actually the Windows port of VocalWriter ( a program by KaeLabs that has been running on Mac OS since the mid-1990s)

it a $39 shareware for Mac OS Classic and the new 2.0 version runs on Mac OS X.
