Tagging your tracks
Here's an interesting reddit thread on tools for tagging your personal music collection: Anybody knows a media player allowing del.icio.us-like tagging of tracks? Some folks want the tags added directly to the ID3-V2 in the MP3 so the tags are not tied to any particular tool or DB.
Sounds like a nice idea. We could also import tags from last.fm and such. Personally, I'm tagging some kinds of albums ("live", "netaudio") in Amarok, but that's about it. Thanks for the link to the interesting thread.

I'm doing this through a Quod Libet plugin, but I'm writing the tags into the ID3 of the mp3s and oggs, so it really works independently of the player. I formerly created a custom ID3 tag, 'tag' which was confusing, and didn't allow my tagging to play nice with others. I've now switched to using the 'grouping' tag, which I believe comes from iTunes, and which *is* widely used. My QL plugin synchronizes these both ways to last.fm as artist, album and track tags.
The plugin can be found here, it's pretty simple python, so I'm sure it could be ported to other players without much effort:
