They wouldn't be suing them if they were customers! :)
I'm a little annoyed by people regarding these suits. A few years ago
they were suing the P2P makers and people on /. were saying (rightfully
so) that the P2P makers did nothing wrong and they should be going
after the people doing the infringing. Then they started going after the
people doing the infringing and the commentators on /. got even louder!
That said, I'm no fan of the RIAA and I think the suits were a bad PR
move. And coercing colleges to turn over student names is also
terrible.
Well ,well ,well, the RIAA decides to find another group of people to
pressure over "control". The music industry in the last 25 years has
disappointed me greatly. Back when the whole "Internet" took off and P2P
got going, none of the industry leaders had the sense to pioneer the
mp3 web sites for even as much to get a sample of an artist. The artist
doesn't that much unless they wrote, produced and performed the album/cd
themselves and didn't have to pay anyone else. This latest move by the
RIAA is parallels the carding for booze at convenient stores where the
clerk has to check to see if you are under age putting the
responsibility squarely on someone else in the food chain.
